Clinical work
Dr Patryk Konieczka is a graduate of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences and the Poznań University of Economics and Business. After completing the post-graduate internship and obtaining the full right to practice, he began a residency in the field of emergency medicine at the Multi-Specialist Municipal Hospital in Poznań, where he combined his work in the emergency department with duties in the Ambulance Teams, and later also in the Polish Medical Air Rescue.
In 2015, after completing his specialization in emergency medicine, at the age of only 31 years, 2 months and 27 days, he became the head of the Hospital Emergency Department in Puszczykowo near Poznań, where he held this position until 2019. In 2019, he took over the management of the emergency department at the HCP Medical Center in Poznań. By creating a team composed entirely of EM specialist doctors and emergency medicine specialists, he led the hospital through the COVID-19 pandemic. For his participation in the creation of the “Korona z głowy” initiative, which organized PPE for doctors in the initial stage of the pandemic, he was awarded the medal of WIL.
Since 2017, he has been the vice-president of the board, and since 2022 he has been the president of the board of the Polish College of Emergency Physicians, sitting on expert panels of the Ministry of Health and co-designing proposals for legislative changes and financing EDs by the National Health Fund.
Since 2022, he has been the deputy head of the Emergency Department at the Greater Poland Pediatric Center in Poznań.
Research and teaching
Dr. Patryk Konieczka is employed as an assistant professor at the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences.
He is the coordinator of emergency medicine program for the students of the medical faculty at the Department of Emergency Medicine, receiving numerous awards for his teaching activities. Together with a team of cooperating doctors, he conducts classes in emergency medicine popularizing this specialty in Poznań and Greater Poland.
In 2022, he defended his doctoral dissertation at the Collegium of Medical Sciences of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences.
Main professional interests
Due to the unique combination of management, IT, teaching and medical skills, Dr. Patryk Konieczka is an advocate of good management of Emergency Departments based on respect for the patient and strict adherence to medical standards based on EBM.
He runs several business activities, including advisory activities focused on improving the functioning of emergency departments. He is the founder of the Foundation for the Development and Promotion of Emergency Medicine, which supports the development of young emergency medicine doctors and cares for social education in this area.
