Clinical work

Dr. Dorota Rutkowska is a graduate of the Medical Academy of Wroclaw, Poland. Upon the completion of her postgraduate internship, she began an emergency medicine residency at the Regional Medical Center in Opole, Poland. One of her professional goals was to pursue a research and teaching career, therefore in 2016 she began to work in the Department of Emergency and Disaster Medicine, Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Concurrently, she continued her emergency medicine residency training in the Department of Emergency Medicine, University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz. In 2019 she completed her residency training and qualified as an emergency medicine specialist.

Research and teaching

Dr. Rutkowska has been working as a junior assistant at the Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz since 2016. Between 2016 and 2017 she worked in the Department of Emergency and Disaster Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. Beginning in 2017, she has worked in the Department of Medical Simulation, Faculty of Medicine, where she develops and leads classes for both Polish and English-speaking students centered on first aid and emergency medicine.

As of 2014, Dr. Rutkowska has been a member in good standing of the Polish Society for Emergency Medicine, and in 2016 she co-founded the Young Doctors Section of the Polish Society for Emergency Medicine, and was elected chairperson that same year. In addition, Dr. Rutkowska is a member of both the European Society for Emergency Medicine and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

Main professional interests

Dr. Rutkowska’s main professional interests in the field of emergency medicine include: resuscitation, initial intensive care in the emergency department, as well as the use of ultrasounds in emergency medicine. Another area of her interest involves the utilization of medical simulation as it relates to medical education, primarily in the field of emergency medicine. In 2017 Dr. Rutkowska completed her training and qualified to become a certified Medical Simulation Instructor. Her interests also include the role of social media and FOAMed in education, as well as the importance of soft skills in teaching and in the clinical practice of emergency medicine.
