Clinical work
Associate Professor Adam Nogalski graduated from the Medical Academy of Lublin, Faculty of Medicine in 1990. Upon graduation he commenced working as a junior assistant in the Department of Trauma Surgery and Emergency Medicine at the Medical University of Lublin. In 2007 he was elevated to the position of chairman of the department.
Professor Nogalski achieved the title of general surgery specialist (1st degree) in 1994. In 1999 he completed his 2nd degree training in this specialty. He became a specialist in emergency medicine in 2003. Between 1999 and 2007, while working in the Department of Trauma Surgery and Emergency Medicine, Professor A. Nogalski served as the head of the Emergency Department in the University Hospital No. 1 in Lublin. Since 2004, he has been Voivodship consultant in the field of emergency medicine in the Lublin region.
Research and teaching
Along with his clinical work, Professor Nogalski actively continues his ongoing research. In 1998 he obtained his doctorate in medical sciences, and his postdoctoral academic degree (known in Poland as habilitated doctor of medical sciences) in 2008. Since 2010 he has worked as an associate professor at the Medical University of Lublin. Beginning in 2012 and currently, Professor Nogalski serves as the Vice-Dean of the First Faculty of Medicine with the Dentistry Program of the Medical University of Lublin.
Professor Nogalski is a member in good standing of numerous scientific societies. He became a member of the Polish Society for Emergency Medicine in 2001. He has actively supported the Society’s development and has been a member of the Society’s Board since 2004. From 2010 to 2015 he served as the Secretary of the Board, and between 2016 and 2018 he served as the Vice-President of the Society. In addition, he was the President of the Lublin Branch of the Polish Society for Emergency Medicine from 2003 to 2010. His numerous professional memberships include: the European Society of Emergency Medicine (2008), the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (2016), the Association of Polish Surgeons (1991), and the Lublin Scientific Society (2010).
Primary professional interests
Professor Nogalski’s professional interests include a wide range of topics in the field of trauma surgery and emergency medicine, focusing mainly on issues related to trauma epidemiology, therapeutic methods used in trauma patients, as well as organizational issues/solutions related to trauma surgery and emergency medicine. The height of Prof. Nogalski’s scientific achievement is his habilitation dissertation. The main goal of his dissertation research was the development of a scale which is used to assess the severity of injuries. This is an objective scale which can be employed to measure the possible life-threatening risks of these injuries in both individual patients, and selected groups of patients. This scale can also be applied to perform research in populations.
